The Mainland is a region near the center of the set of islands called the Lands of the Founder, which is known for its wildly differing climates on such a comparably small landmass.
The northern reaches of the Mainland are covered in snow and ice, and in addition, the eastern half of the north is also covered in swamps and forests of rotted wood. These northern reaches used to be two different countries: Zariaha and Witherwood, until Zariaha offered Witherwood protectorate status in the Year 3024 of the Third Age, and ultimately annexed Witherwood into Zariaha, creating the District of Witherwood within the Zariahan Empire.
The central regions are mostly grasslands and forests, and it is here that we find three well known settlements, among the Westerlands and the Deep Woods. The Royal City, the seat of power for the Westerland Empire, but often just shortened to the Human Empire. In the same territory as the Royal City, there is Silverwood Village, which is almost directly in the center of the continent, eastward of the Royal City. And, lastly, we have the Janni Camp, even more eastward than Silverwood. The Janni Camp is well known for being a safe haven, and Dramae's declared neutral ground.
To the south, three regions dominate. Firstly, to the west, the Sandscar Desert, to the south is the Kotanian Jungle, and to the east is the Rift. All three regions have always been fairly politically neutral, with the Kotanian Jungle being unclaimed for most of the Realm's history, the Rift being known for its peaceful relations, and Sandscar for its growing importance as a trade hub and exporter of exotic metals.
On top of this, mountain ranges act as pseudo borders between most of the regions.
At its two farthest points, from the east to the west, the Mainland is 5178 km wide.
Overall, it's a diverse, yet separate place, filled with many people of different stripes.
